Middle School
Students in the middle school grades need a strong foundation for educational success. At Macbeth Academy, we know that students in the middle grades need a sufficient academic and creative challenge.

Students in the middle school grades need consistent positive reinforcement. As students transition through sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, academic counselors, parents, and students will revisit individual academic plans to ensure that they are reaching all academic goals. Students in the online middle school program gain levels of independence and self-reliance as they choose academic pathways that will pave the way to a breadth and depth of academic achievement, critical thinking, and personal fulfillment.

Macbeth Academy faculty and staff provide academic, personal, and social support and encouragement to all middle school families with personalized academic plans, parent/ teacher conferences, and peer-led student organizations. Specifically, students in sixth through eighth grades have opportunities to join and start their own student-led clubs. Students also have the opportunity to choose any of our varied and academically inspiring electives. The two other Dual Enrollment programs in California – one that allows high school students to take school courses on a school campus, and a middle school model that integrates a high school ‘campus’ into a community school, also are popular.

Middle School Curriculum

Macbeth Academy courses are online and, depending on the course, will incorporate virtual or physical textbooks and workbooks. We know that each student is an individual with their own appropriate learning style. Because of this, Macbeth Academy instructors will suggest learning materials based on a student assessment. In addition, starting in grade 6, students can join or start their own student-led extracurricular organization.

Our online middle school program prepares students two-fold. First, as a college preparatory program, we are creating a foundation for students to cope with the rigors of independent learning similar to that of a university setting. Second, we are preparing students for our Upper School program. Because of this, students have the opportunity to take high school level courses and earn AP © and high school credits that can be applied to their high school graduation requirements. Once enrolled in the Middle School program, all students meet with an Academic Counselor to create an individualized academic plan that will help them meet specific secondary, post-secondary, and career goals

Students are encouraged to develop knowledge and skills in  core courses & electives, including but not limited to:

How Online Middle School Works

Our online middle school’s flexible learning model empowers parents to create an academic plan that is specific to and appropriate for the rigors of their child’s schedule. Our academic counselors provide a schedule for each academic pathway that will guide students and parents through the assignments and projects assigned each quarter. Students and parents will have the due dates and expectations of each assignment to keep students on track with the assessments of each course.

Assignments and coursework are personalized for each student to help with their specific academic goals and to teach them at their pace. The goal of each course is to provide a foundation for students to successfully complete our upper level, college preparatory program. Macbeth Academy certified teachers then provide students with engaging and challenging lessons that will lay the foundation for our college-bound, high achieving students.

Middle School Self-Paced Courses

Macbeth Academy partners with Edgenuity to provide a secular, fully online curriculum for students in grades 6-8. This online course offering is secular which is the best fit for families who prefer lessons without religious presentation. Once enrolled in Edgenuity courses our certified teacher will provide an academic coaching session which includes pacing suggestions and pacing guide. With this option certified teachers offer grading and academic support as needed. This Middle School self-paced program is also customized to meet each student’s needs with a personalized plan of study.

Middle School Academic Plan Structure

Macbeth Academy provides students with a complete and personalized guide to middle school level learning. Our program plan guides students and parents through each quarter:

Progress Tracking

Each course has regular course specific assessments built into the program. Progress allows parents, students, and teachers to properly understand whether students are grasping knowledge and appropriate next steps for continued knowledge acquisition.

Macbeth Academy students are high achievers and need constant academic challenges. With this in mind, students are supplied with a weekly homework guide that supports associated coursework for the week. During private, one-to-one sessions homework is assessed for accuracy and skill mastery. Homework is scheduled enough for content revision and mastery outside of the classroom. Students are also encouraged to expand their knowledge using the Flipped Classroom model.

Flexible Schedule

Our flexible schedules are designed with the active student in mind. Students are given the flexibility to enroll in courses designed around their existing schedules.

Middle School Academic Counseling

Macbeth Academy’s academic counselors prepare middle school students for a smooth transition into our Upper School with an aligned academic pathway. To prepare students for upper school, all 8th graders will complete an academic and college guidance meeting to ensure that they are prepared to meet secondary and post-secondary goals. Once the middle school academic plan has been completed, students will then transition seamlessly into the upper school and college-preparatory plan.
